Of characteristic tall form, the rectangular back with two horizontal rails between tapering uprights surmounted by turned disc finials, the shaped arms supported on simple posts and a square framework, retaining the original woven rush seat, on square legs joined by stretchers and ending in distinctive disc feet. Constructed with pegged mortise-and-tenon joints and displaying a rich aged patina.

Attributed to William Birch & Son, High Wycombe, whose workshops supplied Liberty & Co. and produced furniture in the manner of C.F.A. Voysey. The pure geometry, structural clarity, and restrained ornament of this model embody the ideals of the Arts and Crafts movement at the turn of the 20th century.
